Nestled within the quiet residential area of Hampton and alongside a delightful local park, Denmead aims to provide a caring and happy environment in which all pupils are encouraged to develop their talents to the full. Academic work, the arts and sport are all regarded as important and we are proud of our long record of success in all these areas. The school has recently gained planning permission to rebuild the entire Prep Department with completion anticipated by September 2015.
We are a happy, but disciplined community where traditional values work in harmony with modern developments in teaching, providing an excellent foundation for our pupils who benefit from plenty of individual attention.
The two main points of entry are into Kindergarten as a rising four year old and into Year 3 at age 7. Girls leave at the end of Year 2, when they move on to a number of local independent schools. Boys in Year 2 at the Pre-Prep and those who sit for an assessment for entry into Year 3, can gain an Assured Place to Hampton School at 11+, on the basis of their performance in this exam. There are then annual opportunities for the boys to earn a similar offer. Year 6 boys will also sit for a number of other senior schools and most recently we have enjoyed great success being offered four awards out of a year group of thirty four.
Sport includes football, rugby, cross country, cricket and athletics as major disciplines, with others such as judo and chess making up part of the regular extra curricular timetable. Matches against other schools are played in all year groups from Year 3 upwards and it is an important target to give all the boys the opportunity of representing the school during the year.
Music and drama are also important aspects of school life with each year group performing in productions and revues annually, and pupils gain the benefit of an extensive ‘outings and visitors’ programme including residential trips for Years 3 to 6.
The School enjoys the support of a very active parents’ association that organises a range of events during the year.
In our last Ofsted Early Years Inspection, the School was judged to be providing excellent provision and that pupils were making ‘very good progress towards the Early Learning Goals in all areas’.
In the most recent whole school ISI inspection the teaching was considered to be "of high quality" and pupils' personal development was judged to be "excellent throughout the school".
