Head PhotoIt is my strongly held belief that if children are happy they will learn and thrive and by recognising them as individuals this is more likely to happen.

Set on twenty acres of parkland around an 18th Century manor house and only minutes’ drive from both Sherborne and Yeovil we provide individual attention for all our pupils so they develop into rounded, caring and outgoing people.

Academically, we thrive as well. In 2012 our pupils brought in outstanding GCSE results yet again. 95% of pupils achieved A* - C in Maths with 53% achieving either A* or A. 92% of pupils achieved A* - C in Science. 100% of pupils passed their Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Drama, Music, Art and German GCSEs.

Entry may be at any age from 4 - 17, however, boarding pupils are accepted from Year 3 (at the beginning of Preparatory School), at the earliest. Admission is by interview, and in-house testing where appropriate, together with full consideration of recent reports.

The Preparatory School offers a combination of small classes and a broad curriculum which allows us to find every child’s strengths whilst supporting them in any areas they find more challenging.

Whilst pupils sit standardised tests in order to inform our learning and teaching, we do not prepare our pupils formally for the government’s National Curriculum attainment tests (SATs) at the end of Year 6, thus allowing pupils to join the Preparatory Department at any stage during Key Stage 2.

The Senior School offers a comprehensive range of academic subjects including French, Spanish and German languages, Classical Civilisation, Information Technology, Resistant Material Technology-RMT, Business Studies, PE, Food Technology and Art.

Fully integrated into the mainstream curriculum of the School is an effective Development and Support Department.

Our new Sixth Form provision is designed with choice, flexibility and depth of study in mind allowing students to complete A Level subjects and follow the Extended Project Qualification to ensure breadth and development as well-rounded students.

Our broad academic curriculum is complemented by offering a wide range of extracurricular activities such as craft, cookery, running club, school newspaper and woodcraft for Prep pupils and chess, drama, rock music, drama, IT, debating and the Duke of Edinburgh Award for Senior School and a full range of team games including both Rugby and Association Football.

At weekends, boarding pupils can choose from a range of activities and outings. Day pupils have the option to board on an occasional (or regular night) basis.

We offer low, affordable fees that include a long list of free after school activities and free weekend trips for our boarding pupils.

Come and visit us and find out why achieving potential is affordable at Chilton Cantelo School.
