Notre Dame was originally founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1865 but is now a company with charitable status. The aim of the headmaster and staff is to promote the intellectual, social and physical qualities of each child in a secure and happy atmosphere. As a Catholic school we endeavour to nurture a love of God in all our children. The school has an ethos of service and care and embraces children of all faiths.
We have excellent SATs results and long experience of preparing children for sitting exams for selective independent schools.
The curriculum includes English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, French, Music, Art, Design, Design + Technology, Religious Education, Physical Education, swimming and ICT. Optional subjects are speech and drama, ballet, recorder, tennis, football coaching club, cricket, rugby, mini-sports, choir, music ensemble, chess, arts and crafts, guitar and woodwind.
There is an After School Club until 5.40pm offering a light tea and homework facilities. We also offer supervision from 8am. There is a government funding scheme for 3 and 4 year olds. A new library was opened in November 2002. July 2003 saw the erection of a new Adventure Playground. An early years play area was opened in October 2003. We have recently purchased a minibus – with the help of funds raised by our PTA.
The Headmaster and staff work in collaboration with parents, helping the children towards a growing understanding of the world and of their responsibilities towards other people.
