Head PhotoOur aim at Long Close is to provide your child with the best opportunity of transferring successfully to the next stage of his or her education. We, as a staff, are jointly committed to this end.

We will focus on your child’s talents so that they may be developed and success is assured. Learning skills and consolidating others are parts of the process, while great emphasis is placed on art, drama, music, design technology and sport.

I am proud of the fact that we continue to foster an atmosphere of effort, attainment and enthusiasm, where your child will be encouraged to grow in confidence and gain the skills needed for coping effectively with the many challenges ahead.

Long Close provides a rich learning environment for boys and girls from nursery to age 16. It has a well-established reputation for friendliness and achievement. A strong emphasis is placed on individual attention in small classes, so each child has the greatest chance of success.

Children are prepared for Scholarship and Common Entrance exams to independent schools, and for entry to grammar schools. The broadly based curriculum, with emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science, aims to help all children fulfil their individual potential.

Geography, Games, Information and Communication Technology, French, Music, Drama and Art all have a significant status in the curriculum. Our pupils are encouraged to participate in many seasonal games, clubs and activities and they take pleasure in representing the school in a variety of sports.

Each child is encouraged to achieve success in as many areas as possible in a disciplined and happy environment. Children leave Long Close not only with academic skills and ability but also with a generally well-rounded education. They have learned to respect and care for others. I believe that true friendship is built upon qualities such as honesty, reliability and that respect for other people and their property is essential for a secure, self-disciplined and rewarding environment. Your child will be taught to leave people and things better than when found.

In a nutshell, Long Close offers first class education for children of all abilities in small classes and in a purposeful atmosphere, thus ensuring entry to top independent grammar and other state schools.
