Word From The Head
From Rhian Thornton, Headmistress
Upton House is a thriving co-educational school for boys and girls aged 2 up to 11 years. Self-esteem and happiness, we believe, are paramount to each child’s success and we pride ourselves on developing confident and happy children with a love of learning.
Our aim at Upton House is to foster a happy and stimulating environment in which each child can prosper academically, socially and emotionally. The school prepares all children for their continuing education and equips them with life skills for the future.
Upton House School was founded in 1936 by benefactors and has evolved over the years to provide a well-equipped modern environment where children thrive.
At Upton House we aim to provide the best possible education for each child. We give encouragement and stimulation to develop their academic abilities and we develop pupils individual strengths, whether it is from our broad curriculum or from our wide range of extracurricular activities. This combined with a loving nurturing environment, develops a set of pastoral values which makes Upton very special.
Our arts block houses a music room, recording studio and art studio. Our newly opened Broadcasting Studio offers the facility to livestream many of our events to parents and their families, and the opportunity for older pupils to try their hand at broadcasting. Our kitchen serves freshly prepared, nutritious meals on site. Facilities also include a drama/dance studio and gymnasium.
Specialist subjects include PE and French from 3 years old. Educational robots, iPads, laptops, and interactive whiteboards are used across the school to enhance learning. Diverse sporting activities include judo, fencing and ballet.
Our enhanced curriculum is rich with cross-curricular digital innovations and our pioneering live-streamed events run by our Broadcasting Club share our activities with our global family online.
Boys and girls leaving us gain places at a wide range of excellent senior schools and regularly win scholarships.
Entry is non-selective and means-tested bursaries are available for those entering the school.
We provide care from 7.45am in our Early Birds breakfast club as well as an extended day until 6pm for children from age 3. A wide variety of clubs are offered in the extended day programme as well as teacher-supervised prep for older children.
We have an active PTA which organises many fundraising events throughout the year and helps to forge close links between the school and parents.
Please visit our website for details of forthcoming virtual open mornings. Personal tours are also welcome where you can be assured of a warm welcome.
Upton House really is an exceptional place full of wonderful opportunities for every child.
