The Abbey School provides an outstanding all-round education for Girls.
The Abbey School in Reading is consistently one of the top schools in the country, educating 1050 girls between the ages of 3 and 18. Excellent GCSE (in 2011 87% A*/A and 97% A*-B) and A level results (in 2011 59% A*/A s with 33% gaining straight A*/As). The school also offers IB as an option in the Sixth Form with 2011 results at a mean of 39 points and 40% scoring 40 points or more. Girls gain entry to the universities and colleges of their choice, including good numbers to Oxbridge.
There is so much more to the school beyond the academic, with a strong music, art, drama and sports programme creating a vibrant atmosphere. There is a wide and diverse programme of opportunity for girls with debating, Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Young Enterprise, overseas trips and inter-house competitions all popular. The new Jane Austen Wing at the Senior School has state-of-the-art classrooms and Art and ICT facilities and there are 12 Science labs.
Junior School girls are provided with a first class educational foundation, starting with two years in the OFSTED-praised Early Years Centre where there is an excellent staff:pupil ratio. Sport is played every day and there is an extensive programme of extra-curricular clubs and school trips. Before and after school care and a holiday club are very popular.
