Head PhotoIf you were to ask a St Swithun's parent why they chose us for their child, I hope they would tell you that it is because we believe a child's education should be about discovery and a sense of adventure, spirit of excitement and fun; that good academic success and a great deal more is achieved as a result of this ethos. We are a non-selective school and, as such, our academic success is achieved through good teaching in small groups, excellent resources and facilities, supportive parents and motivated children who enjoy coming to school. It is the children that we are most proud of and we spend a lot of time building their self esteem. All children have different talents and skills and my teaching staff and I are committed to finding and developing these. Success in one area leads to a boost in confidence elsewhere and this helps our pupils feel secure enough to explore and take risks. When searching for a school, I believe parents look for a number of qualities - confident and engaging pupils; staff who were dedicated to ensuring that the pupils were successful and happy; an understanding that every child is different; exceptional facilities. You will find these at St Swithun's School. I hope that our prospectus will give you a sense of St Swithun's. The School shares a spacious 45-acre campus with the Senior School on the Hampshire Downs and is an independent day school for approximately 200 girls and boys. Girls are aged 3-11 and boys are aged 3-7. The school is currently undergoing a rebuild which will, when fully complete in 2017, accommodate 256 children. The first phase will be complete in January 2015. The Junior School ethos centres around the belief that education should awaken a spirit of wonder and discovery in children. In a stimulating environment staff aim to foster an eagerness to learn, to strive and to achieve, indeed to release the potential of each pupil - academically, creatively, on the sports field and at play. The school encourages pupils, parents and staff to be part of a caring community committed to the nurture and encouragement of every individual. It is important to us that our pupils develop a sense of their own worth whilst demonstrating consideration and courtesy for others. Like the Senior School, St Swithun's is a Christian foundation and its ethos is reflected in the school's values and relationships. Facilities are first-class and include specialist classrooms for Science, Art and Technology, Music and IT. There is a purpose-built Performance Hall and Sports Hall and the Nursery and Reception classrooms were rebuilt in 2005. I hope that you will come and see for yourself what we can offer your child.
