d'Overbroeck's is a co-educational school in Oxford for pupils aged 11-18. We are fairly evenly divided between residential and day students in the Sixth Form; but are day only up to the age of 16 (although we take students as boarders in the International Section from age 14).
Our academic approach is characterised by small classes (maximum of 10 students per class in the Sixth Form and 15 in Years 7-11) and a highly supportive and encouraging approach that builds on each student's strengths and enables outstanding academic achievements.
Teaching is highly interactive and seeks to generate enthusiasm for the subject, sound academic skills and effective working habits, while at the same time providing a thorough preparation for public examinations and ensuring that the learning experience is motivating and fun.
A wide range of sporting and other extra-curricular activities is available to complement learning in the classroom. Students can take part in numerous School events and performances and benefit from the wide range of educational, cultural and social activities which Oxford has to offer. We believe that happiness and success go hand in hand - and throughout the School we do our utmost to ensure that every student is given opportunities to develop and is encouraged and rewarded - whether in the classroom, on stage or on the sports field.
Alongside academic and extra-curricular achievements, there is a strong emphasis on personal development and on fostering a sense of individual responsibility, particularly in the Sixth Form. The fact the Sixth Form is on a different site allows us to offer a clear sense of progression from Year 11 with an approach appropriate to older students. Many students from other schools join us for direct entry into our Sixth Form.
We expect high standards of commitment and effort from our students and have a track-record of strong GCSE and A Level results, both in absolute terms and on a value-added basis. Students benefit from excellent teaching and a positive approach which enables them to maximise their potential. Last year, for example, our students achieved 54% grade A or A* at A Level with around 41% of students gaining A/A*in three or more subjects. The overwhelming majority of students go on to university and we have an excellent record of success with entry including Oxford and Cambridge, as well as medical, law and art schools.
Main Entry Points: 11+, 13+ and directly into the Sixth Form, post GCSE.
