Marymount International School London is an independent, Catholic day and boarding school for girls aged 11 - 18. It was established in 1955 by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) and is a part of the RSHM Network of Schools worldwide. Located on 7 acres of land only 12 miles from central London, the students enjoy the peace of the campus, and are also able to take advantage of the multitude of activities on offer in London and its surrounding areas.
The school aims to provide an intellectually stimulating and emotionally secure environment in which the academic, social and personal needs of each individual student may be met. Education is seen as a continuous process of growth in awareness and development towards maturity in preparation for participation in the world community. The international atmosphere (over 50 nationalities are represented in the student body) promotes understanding and respect among the different cultures and faiths.
Middle and High School syllabi are based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula. In 1979 Marymount was the first all-girls school in the UK to offer the IB Diploma programme. With over 30 years of experience, the School has a history of excellent results. Marymount was also the first British-based School in 1995 to be affiliated by the International Baccalaureate Office to offer their Middle Years Programme, an innovative pre-IB curriculum for pupils aged 11-16, which prepares students for the discipline and format of the full IB Diploma option which is studied in grades 11 and 12. Nearly all of our High School graduates gain places at prestigious universities in the UK and abroad. The overall student: teacher ratio is 7:1, the average class size numbers 14 students.
Marymount offers a tranquil campus with a wide variety of facilities to students: two IT centres; Science laboratories; language labs, art studio and music practice rooms; theatre arts studio and 300 seater Auditorium; multi-purpose Sports Hall including a fitness centre and tennis courts; a well resourced library which, as well as books, includes periodicals, AV and DVD/CD-ROMS; school-wide wi-fi (laptop) network and broadband facilities; student lounges for relaxing. Boarding residences are located on the main campus and students are placed in rooms of 1-3 students depending on age. Four school buses operate a comprehensive daily door-to-door transport service, which covers a wide area of south-west London and Surrey, and is available to all day students.
An integral part of the school programme each year is the option to visit a variety of foreign locations to learn about the history and culture of the area. Recent options include China, Morocco and Costa Rica in addition to an annual ski trip to Switzerland.
