Head PhotoEvery year students at Burgess Hill Girls perform exceptionally well in their external examinations, but this is only part of the story. At our school we believe that education for life involves much more than academic success alone. We offer all our students a wide range of opportunities to challenge and bring out the best in them, so that they are able to find and develop their individual interests and talents.

Burgess Hill Girls is a successful day and boarding school for girls between 2½ and 18 years of age, with boys welcome in the Nursery. The school is small enough that children are known as individuals yet large enough to offer breadth, choice and opportunity. The Sixth Form are given responsibility and independence which prepares them well for the next stage of their lives. The vast majority go on to universities the length and breadth of the UK, from Exeter to London, Oxford to Cambridge, Cardiff or St Andrews to name but a few.

The curriculum is broad and challenging and relevant to the needs of young people. There is a wide choice of subjects both at GCSE and A Level with many extra-curricular activities.

With activities as wide ranging as sailing, rowing, golf, hockey, horse riding and squash, the girls are encouraged to pursue an active and healthy life with a good balance between work and enrichment to broaden their horizons. Our extra-curricular activities include all ages and abilities and aside from our clubs in sports, music, arts and specialist subjects, the girls are offered further enrichment activities.

In the Junior School the girls take part in many events including local festivals, competitive events and workshops with other schools. In the Senior School the girls have the opportunity to take part in our unique careers conferences involving inspirational speakers and workshops, to encourage the girls to plan for their futures. Our Sixth Form students have lessons in Life Skills and are offered the opportunity of attending a networking dinner where they can meet successful business people from all walks of life. All Year groups are given opportunities to go on educational and residential trips and we also arrange "once-in-a-lifetime trips" to places such as Iceland and Uganda.

Our girls are enthusiastic and motivated learners and their attitude to learning is evident in everything they do, including our consistently excellent examination results. Burgess Hill School girls achieved excellent examination results for 2014 A Level examinations with 49.6% A*-A grades, 80.5% A* -B grades: 80.5% and 91.2% A*-C grades. GCSE examinations were again fantastic - another successful year with 70% of girls achieving grades at A* or A. For a third of the year group all grades were A*/A, and 89% of all examinations taken were graded A*- B, demonstrating the depth and breadth of their achievements.

The interests of our students are diverse and our single-sex environment encourages the girls to enjoy and thrive in all subjects. We were particularly delighted with the full complement of A* grades gained by our EPQ students and the highly prized A* grades in French, German and Latin which are recognised nationally as amongst the most difficult to achieve. With three quarters of the year group taking at least one Science or Mathematics A Level, we are also proud to highlight the strength of the school in encouraging girls to pursue STEM subjects at school and university. Many of our students go on to study Science or Engineering at University, while others gain places in subjects as diverse as Medicine, International Relations, Information Technology, Japanese, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Drama and Criminology.

At Burgess Hill Girls our focus is on girls and the way they learn, the skills and talents they have and the best way to encourage their personal development.

The ethos of the school is to provide a caring environment for the development of the whole child. To achieve this aim, we have small classes with fully qualified, professional staff dedicated to catering for the needs of the individual child. The main aim of the School is to provide each girl with the opportunity to realise her potential in every way.

There are two beautiful boarding houses adjoining the school grounds. The rooms and common rooms are spacious, light and pleasantly furnished and the atmosphere is informal and friendly. We also offer 'casual' boarding for girls aged 7 to 18 years.

Burgess Hill Girls fees are competitive. Entrance to either the Junior or Senior School is by examination and reference. Those students applying for a place in the Senior School are also invited to visit the School for an informal interview. Scholarships are also awarded each year for academic and/or musical excellence into Years 3, 4, 7, 9 and the Lower Sixth. Creative scholarships are also available for students entering Year 9 and the Lower Sixth.
