Gordon's School Memorial weekend

Last year, Gordons School beat the snow to parade along Whitehall in London for the annual memorial service. This year we were faced with the possibility of floods if the rain continued. Thankfully the rain held off and despite very little sunshine the students kept dry as they proudly marched behind the Pipes and Drums band from King Charles Street passing by the Cenotaph to the statue of General Gordon on Embankment. At the stroke of noon on Saturday 18th January 2014, the chimes from Big Ben marked the start of the service. Led by our very own chaplain, the service was ended by the sounding of The Last Post and wreaths were laid by Tom Gordon of the Gordon Family, Head Girl from 2013, Izora Baba, and Steve Davis (7930) on behalf of the Gordonians. Memorial Weekend continued on Sunday 19th January on a gloriously sunny morning at Guildford Cathedral where the service was led by the Dean, The Very Reverend Dianna Gwilliams, with The Gordon Sermon given by The Reverend Esther Prior. To round up a very successful weekend of thanksgiving for the life of General Gordon and the founding of the School there was a fantastic turnout of students, parents, family and friends filling the nave and gallery.
