Caterham School girls badminton team competed in the South East England Regional Final of the Centre Parcs National Schools Badminton Championship, an event that attracts 1600 schools.

The Regional Final took place at the Spectrum in Guildford on 20 March and included teams from Berkshire, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex and Kent. Caterham School were representing Surrey having won the District and County rounds of the tournament.

Caterham enjoyed 5-0 victories over Thornden School, Hampshire and Wood Green School, Oxfordshire, which put them into the semi final against Millais School, Sussex.

Unfortunately Millais proved too strong, winning 1-4, despite some very close games. Caterham therefore had to play Thornden School for the bronze medal. Caterham won 4-0.

Mrs Nat Lomas, Head of Girls Games, said: 'All the team are Fifth Year students so it is a real achievement for them to be able to win the bronze medal against very strong competition. They played with tremendous passion and spirit and, in some ways, were unlucky not to reach the final. I was particularly pleased that they showed the strength of character to regroup and take the bronze. I'm very proud of them all.'
