Luckley House School to open its doors to Boys from September 2015
Luckley House School
Luckley House School has great pleasure in announcing a significant development in the Schools strategy to maintain and develop its position as a leading Berkshire Independent School. With the Schools strengths and traditions in mind, and looking to the future needs of pupils and parents, the Governors have carried out extensive research and consultation to evaluate how the School can best fulfil its future vision. After considerable reflection, the Governors have unanimously decided to open the School to both boys and girls from September 2015.
The Schools aim for the past century has been to enable students to thrive in a secure and encouraging environment, equipping each one to be resourceful and resilient in a changing world, ready to take on lifes many challenges and opportunities. This continues to be the aim and the School believes the move to co-education, along with an education based on the Christian foundations of love and service, will enable the girls and boys to be even better prepared for university and their future lives.
There is an ongoing multi-million pound investment plan in the School. Recent developments have included new science laboratories, a state of the art music centre, spacious art studios, improvements to the large sports centre, a fitness suite, food technology and textiles suites, new boarding facilities, common rooms and the Jubilee Building. This October the school is starting to build a 5m Performing Arts Centre and there are equally ambitious plans in place for the future.
Over time the Governors at Luckley House have recognised changes in the intake with the majority of enquiries coming from co-educational schools and prospective families increasingly looking for one small, family-based school to educate both their daughters and sons. The sustained development of facilities at the School alongside continued excellence in academic standards, innovative sports provision, and an extensive co-curricular programme puts the school in the best position to become the leading provider of co-education for families in the surrounding area.
This will be a phased introduction to co-education, planned to strengthen and widen educational opportunities for the girls. The Schools Governors and Staff will be working closely with leading schools consultants, as well as the pupils and parents, to ensure a smooth and successful transition as boys begin to join the school in Years 7, 9 and 12 from September 2015.
The School firmly believes that the future strategic direction will meet the Schools and families needs in the years ahead, preserving the much valued ethos and heritage and securing an exciting and successful future.
