Blundell’s Show Jumping Team Steals Prestigious National Title
A team of four young riders from Devon, representing Blundell’s School, won the hotly-contested national Inter-Schools Show Jumping competition at The Royal Windsor Horse Show in spectacular style. The competition saw 30 schools from all over the country coming together in the grounds of Windsor Castle to compete for the coveted Royal Windsor Inter-Schools’ Show Jumping prize. The Blundell’s team were the last to jump of the day.
Bird Wood riding Derry Storm Cloud jumped first and blazed the trail with a fast clear. Minky’s Midnight Madness ridden by a very cool Georgia Wood jumped a foot perfect round, cutting every possible corner for another clear. After Polly Muirhead, the youngest of the team, riding her new pony, Nyton Village Design, had had the first fence down, the pressure was on Didi Eaton riding Chilham Panache, the last rider to go. Spurred on by the vocal commentator and enthusiastic crowd, Didi knew she had to jump a fast clear to give the team a chance of being placed. The pair jumped a flawless and faultless round to steal the first prize from Sherfield School, Hampshire, by two and a half seconds. Godolphin School were third and Cheltenham Ladies College were fourth.
Mrs Georgina Batting, Team Manager and Senior Mistress at Bundell’s said “To win at Royal Windsor is a massive achievement. The girls did a great job, not only to jump such fantastic rounds but to deal with the enormous pressure of jumping last.”Published: May 20 2015
