Safer Driving tips from The Stig

Ben Collins, aka The Stig from his role on BBC TV’s Top Gear programme, returned to his old school, Blundell’s in Devon, to give current sixth formers a talk on Safer Driving. Using his own experiences as a champion racing driver and stunt driving expert and harking back to when he first learned to drive, Ben gave the students an entertaining but very informative talk on reading the road and anticipating what is coming to stay safe. Several of the sixth formers stayed to chat with him and were able to hold the famous white helmet he wore as The Stig, the mysterious driver who kept 500 million viewers guessing as to his identify for eight years.
Later in the evening, he entertained parents and friends of the school with tales of coaching celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz around the racetrack as The Stig and racing against Formula One World Champions such as Jenson Button and Nigel Mansell. Ben is now famous in his own right as a bestselling author and TV presenter and his most recent book, How to Drive, was very popular with the audience, who queued for a long time to have their copies signed.
