Guinness World Record

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 5th of July 2016

Around two hundred pupils and staff from St Benedict’s School in Ealing broke the Guinness World Record for the largest reading lesson on Friday 24th June, during National Book Day. St Benedict’s joined with seventy-five other schools across England in reading the opening chapter of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. Over 4000 people had taken part in the lesson, so the previous record of 3509 was well and truly broken! At 9.00am English teacher Dr Julie Greenhough, resplendent in Wizard garb, began the reading lesson which lasted half an hour. The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Dr Patricia Walker and Councillor Andrew Steed were present as witnesses and the attempt was judiciously timed with photographic and video evidence submitted. At the end the school took this opportunity to present Madam Mayor with a donation in support of the Mayor's charity for the year, which is homelessness in Ealing.
