Scholars and exhibitioners' concert in a magnificent setting
The final term’s scholars and exhibitioners’ concert was held in the beautiful setting of Cranbourne Farm, Sutton Scotney at the invitation of the Paterson family. The concert took place in the barn which houses an intimate stage and Steinway grand piano. All the girls gave magnificent performances. Highlights included two ensemble performances; Mozart’s Oboe Quartet in F major with Isobel Gordon (oboe), Avril Cullerne (violin), Madeleine Alexander (viola) and Millie Blockley (cello) and a flute quartet comprising Chrissie Gregson, Olivia Bartlett, Isabella Maxton and Jasmine Stringer.
Lucy McMillan impressed us with her tone in Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto, Mia Stares with her assertive performance of Greig’s E minor Piano Sonata, Rosanna Culver with her sensitive portrayal of Purcell’s Music for a While and Emma Paterson with her assured performance of Beethoven’s Spring Sonata. It was moving to hear Edie Bailey perform for the last time before she leaves the school, with a touching rendition of Send in the Clowns by Sondheim. Sadly the weather did not allow us to enjoy an outdoor interval but we appreciated the beautiful surroundings from within the house. Special mentions go to Avril Cullerne, Millie Blockley and Jasmine Stringer for their performances, and of course to the Paterson family for hosting the event. £236 was raised for the school charities of Walking with the Wounded, Allegra’s Ambition and African Wildlife Foundation.Published: August 3 2016
