Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 8th of December 2016

A former OSH student recently spoke at the Royal National Children’s Foundation (RNCF) Celebratory Dinner attended by the charity’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal. More than 150 guests assembled at S James’s Palace for the Dinner, which showcased the charity’s life-changing work and the inspirational achievements of the children they support. Rogan McGilp, who was seated next to HRH The Princess Royal commented “It was quite nerve wracking to start with being sat next to Princess Anne, but as we got talking we found a common interest in cars and ended up spending the entire evening talking about how to drive, build and race them and what cars we have both owned.” After the event Rogan said “It was a memorable evening to say the least, and I am very proud to have been able to support the RNCF in this after all the support they have given me at OSH.” Rogan and two fellow students, Stuart Chau and Ethan Dunbar-Baker, won the UK Young Engineer of the Year 2016 in the National Science Engineering Competition for building a full size hot rod. The vehicle was specifically designed to be accessible for those with disabilities. After their success at the Big Bang Fair, the three boys entered their automotive creation at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS). The competition took place in Brussels last month and the team were awarded the Salvetti Foundation award for the best project in the field of engineering. Rogan, an RNCF beneficiary left the School in July to start an apprenticeship with Worcestershire based car manufacturer Morgan Motor Company.
