Prestigious National Engineering Scholarship awarded to RHS Sixth Form student

Minnie has been awarded a sought-after Arkwright Engineering Scholarship that identifies her as one of the country’s future leaders in engineering and technical design.

The renowned Arkwright Engineering Scholarships provide students with a range of activities to enhance their understanding and experience of engineering during their A levels or IB, and a £600 financial award. The School will also receive £400 as a part of each Scholarship. The Scholarships are respected by leading universities and companies and are supported by top engineering employers such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, National Grid, Balfour Beatty, Microsoft Research, Thales, The Royal Air Force, The Royal Navy and OFCOM. Our own Hannah Brookes won this award herself when she entered 6th form two years ago.

Minnie had to successfully complete a rigorous selection process consisting of a detailed application form, a two-hour engineering problem-solving aptitude exam, and an interview hosted at a top engineering university. Only 400 Scholarships are awarded each year across the UK, with 30,000 students being eligible to apply as a result of their school being affiliated with the Arkwright Scholarships Trust.

The Scholarship will be formally presented at a prestigious ceremony supported by The Institution of Engineering and Technology later this autumn.

Dr Martin Thomas, Chief Executive of the Arkwright Scholarships Trust said: “I am delighted to see students from The Royal High School secure this prestigious accolade. Clearly, there is considerable technical talent in the City of Bath. With the competition for rewarding jobs becoming ever fiercer, the receipt of an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship can help dynamic young people at the start of their journey to be the country’s future leaders of the Engineering Profession.”
