Award-winning Christmas Cards Hot off the Press
Three Brentwood School pupils’ eye-catching Christmas card designs will be used by a local housebuilder as its official corporate Yuletide missive.
Eleven-year-old Sascha Chopra’s design, featuring a reindeer and robin, was the winner of the festive competition. Second prize was awarded to 12-year-old Joshua O’Donovan, with a picture of a snowman, and Simeon McGill, aged 11, came third with another reindeer-themed design.
All three cards are being professionally printed and used throughout the region as Taylor Wimpey East London’s official Christmas cards and, this week, the First Year pupils were delighted to be presented with early copies of their cards which were hot off the press.
Taylor Wimpey East London organised the competition to help encourage pupils to let their creative juices flow during the festive season and donated £250 in book tokens to the School as prizes for the best designed Christmas card.
The School opened the competition up to its First and Second Year pupils, offering a £50 book token for the winner, with second and third prizes of £20 and £10 vouchers respectively, with the rest of the donation being used to provide smaller prizes.
Twelve-year-old Temitayo Idowu received a special School prize for the most creative design.
Art teacher Miss Katie Gellard said: “Taylor Wimpey got in touch with us and asked if we would be interested in getting involved in a collaboration project with them. When they told us what the project would involve we were very keen!
“We didn’t make the competition compulsory for the students, however, the idea of having their designs shown to a big audience got them very excited!”
Miss Gellard continued: “We have seen a big increase in the students spending their lunch and break times visiting the Art Department to work on their designs.
“There wasn’t really a ‘brief’ for the pupils to follow, but we told them to produce something creative and contemporary – and we have been really surprised with just how creative their designs are!”
“It was lovely to have Taylor Wimpey support this project,” she added. “We’ve had so many pupils spend time in the Art Department, putting some Christmas music on and getting creative. It’s a lovely thing to do in the run-up to Christmas and they have been so enthusiastic and excited about it, it’s great!”
Mr Michael O’Leary, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East London, said: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to make this donation to Brentwood School.
“The entries have been incredible and it’s fantastic to hear that our competition has inspired so many of the pupils to embrace their artistic side in the run-up to Christmas.”Published: January 18 2017
