Making a Difference

Year 8 students at Woldingham School spent their Day of Reflection at Aylesford Priory in Kent, led by the ever-inspiring Southwark Youth Service Team. The theme of the day was ‘Making a Difference’: challenging the students to think of the difference they can each make in the school community and among their peers, by using their unique gifts and talents effectively in serving the needs of others. To focus on their contribution to the life of the school they paired up and took part in a ‘walk to Emmaus’ around the extensive grounds, sharing their thoughts and ideas.

There was also an opportunity to work in groups and students made their own prayer jar and Lectio artwork which they took home with them as a reminder of the gift that they are to one another and society. The day concluded with the celebration of Mass which was prepared by the students themselves, taking an active role as readers, singers, altar servers and ushers.

Fr Gerry Devlin, Chaplain at Woldingham said,

“The students returned to Woldingham feeling positive about their role in building up our school community and, in the words of the Gospel for the Mass, they embraced the challenge of being the “light shining in the darkness by their kind words and good example.”
