Culford Tennis Star Becomes Under 16 Great Britain Champion

Harry Wendelken (L5) has become an Under 16 Great British champion after winning the Tennis Europe Winter Cups by HEAD, alongside his team mates.

Held since 1977, the event is the world’s biggest indoor team competition, and this year saw participation from almost 170 national teams across its three age categories in this edition.

With France playing host to both events, the boys won their cup with a 3-0 win over Belgium in Ronchin. Britain’s two other players won both their matches in just under two hours. Harry defeated his opponent (6-3 2-6 6-4) and sealed the deal for Great Britain.

The win comes alongside many other successes for Harry this academic year. These include:

Reaching the Quarter-final Almere ITF in the Netherlands in October 2016
Reaching the Quarter-final at the TATS Open G4 ITF in Finland in November 2016
Reaching the Semi-final at the Salk G4 ITF in Sweden in January 2017
Winner of the Hamburg G4 ITF Germany February 2017
Harry’s coach, Chris Johnson, said: “The Winter Cup was a great experience for Harry and following his recent successes, it shows he is making excellent progress and should be proud of his efforts.”
