Year 7 visit to Chepstow Castle
As part of their ‘castles’ study, Year 7 took a trip over to Wales to visit Chepstow Castle. Pupils were taken around the grounds with guides, learning how the castle developed from the time of the reign of William I under William FitzOsbern until it was ruined by Parliamentarian cannons during the Civil War.
Pupils were then treated to a display of longbowmanship from Kevin Hicks from the History Squad, and then followed up the day with a strategic meeting on the defensive capabilities of the castle.
By visiting Chepstow Castle, the pupils certainly learned a lot and developed a real sense of what life may have been like in the Middle Ages. Published: August 9 2017
