Gold at Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

Two Millfield pupils achieved gold level awards in the annual Cambridge Chemistry Challenge competition, entered by over 7000 pupils.

Sixteen Millfield Sixth Form pupils entered the competition overall, of which a further six pupils achieved copper awards. Lauren Edwards and Zoe Varney were amongst only 543 to achieve a gold in the competition, the top 7% of results.

Entrants, in Lower Sixth at the time, sat the 90 minute written paper in June 2017, after completing their AS Chemistry exams. Set up by experienced teachers and university chemists, the competition aims to stretch and challenge pupils interested in chemistry. The questions take pupils beyond the A level syllabus and encourages them to think about science in the way they would at university.
