Millfield welcomes back entrepreneurial OMs to inspire business pupils
Lower Sixth business pupils were able to learn from successful, entrepreneurial OMs during a talk and workshop session around retail, marketing and buying.
Talia Findlay, Tory Manuel and Rachele Hayman returned to Millfield to offer advice to business pupils, as well as the opportunity to join them on work experience.
The three female businesswomen, who met at Millfield Prep when they were children, have now gone on to have successful careers in sales, digital marketing and owning their own businesses.
In an introductory talk, the ladies explained how their careers in business began: Talia Findlay realised the future of sales required her to be knowledgeable in digital marketing, which led to her current position as Sales Director from Royal Canin, the largest brand in the Mars portfolio.
Likewise, Luxury Childrenswear business owner Rachele Hayman told pupils of her time studying international business and working Russia, France and the USA, as well as her time spent working directly for Sir Philip Green and the Arcadia Group as Director for Buying.
Interior Designer and marketing expert Tory Manuel also offered insights in her career beginnings, which included an internship at Colefax & Fowler, including eight years in New York. Her role was in marketing, growing product merchandises and showroom renovations throughout the USA for the prestigious British brand. She has since joined Ben Whistler, the high end bespoke furniture company where she explained the process of their furniture designs for the Gleneagles Estate hotel in Scotland.
The pupils were then split into three groups and worked with the businesswomen on specific workshops based on their expertise. These included specific sales techniques and strategies for hugely successful brands, understanding the target market and pitching your product accordingly, highlighting the buying process of large national businesses and bringing those products to market.Published: October 23 2017
