9th Festival of Literature – tickets available 6th November

Bishop’s Stortford College will hold its ninth Festival of Literature from 2nd – 8th February 2018. The week will feature an array of authors, wordsmiths and adventurers in a series of Schools Events where local schools are able to book seats for their pupils and Open Events which are open to the general public. The Festival opens on Friday 2nd February 2018 with author and illustrator James Mayhew, who will be storytelling and painting live to music by the Bishop’s Stortford College Orchestra and choirs. On Saturday 3rd February, fans of Just a Minute and Countdown can enjoy puns and stories by author, broadcaster and former politician Gyles Brandreth, while poetry lovers will relish meeting renowned poet and presenter of BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, Ian McMillan on Monday 5th February. On Tuesday 6th February, world record-holding adventurer and bestselling author Sarah Outen will share her experiences of the high seas and architectural historian, BBC television presenter and fellow traveller Dan Cruickshank, will share his knowledge of some of the world’s best known buildings. Local author Chris Whitaker, will hold an evening of suspense on Wednesday 7th February and Thursday 8th February will feature award-winning feminist writer and journalist Laura Bates in conversation with renowned employment lawyer and local author Hina Belitz. The Festival of Literature Schools Events are open to local pupils from Years 1 to 8 and include an exciting range of authors and storytellers, from one of the UK’s biggest names in picture books, Jeanne Willis to award-winning author of the Murder Most Unladylike series Robin Stevens and poet and performer Joseph Coelho. Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown will present the much anticipated annual Bishop’s Stortford Picture Book Award and reveal the latest winner of this prestigious award.
