Year 10 mathematician gets top score in UKMT Olympiad for Girls

Year 10 pupil Yuhka Machino received a book prize for her perfect score of 50/50 at this year’s UKMT Mathematical Olympiad for Girls.

Nine girls from Millfield took part in this year’s Olympiad, which involved over 1700 girls nationwide. The event, which is run by the UK Mathematics Trust, was introduced in 2011 to help schools nurture the talents of enthusiastic young female mathematicians, and is aimed at girls in the Upper Sixth and below.

At Millfield, Year 10 pupil Yuhka Machino, Year 11 pupil Saskia Portman and Upper Sixth pupil Zoe Varney all reached the top 25% of entrants, and were each rewarded with a certificate of distinction.
