CHS Pupils Bring Christmas Cheer TO Local Charities

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 14th of December 2017

For their Christmas Charity Giving this year pupils from Colchester High School Charity Council decided to keep it close to home choosing Home Start Colchester, The Korban Project and the Women’s Refuge as their charities of choice for their Christmas gift boxes appeal and Christmas non-uniform donations. The pupils chose the charities, as they are all small independent groups supporting young people and families across Colchester who are struggling emotionally and financially this Christmas. The representative of the Women’s Refuge said, “We are simply overwhelmed by the kindness of the pupils and the thoughts that have gone into the presents, our families will be so grateful for these Christmas gifts.” The Korban Project and Home Start Colchester also thanked the children and reiterated how these gifts would make such a difference to Christmas Day for so many children. Mr. Young, Principal said “I am very proud of our pupils for their generous giving and community spirit at a time of year that can be full of cheer for many but equally so daunting for others. The Colchester High School motto is “God first, others second, self last” and it is inspiring to see that our pupils clearly take our ethos to heart and are ready to help those less fortunate than themselves. Over £400 was also raised in non-uniform day donations that will be split between the charities. Notes to Article: Home Start Colchester offers a family mentoring support service, taking the time to visit each family at home, providing practical and emotional assistance to support positive changes to take place. The Colchester Korban Project is a Christian based charity providing supported housing for 16 – 25 year olds who have found themselves in crisis. We aim to offer young people a home, support and guidance as they prepare themselves for independence. The Colchester and Tendring Women’s Refuge provides emergency accommodation, advice and help for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
