Victoria Cross hero Dr Johnson Beharry speaks to Sixth Form pupils
Millfield Sixth Form pupils welcomed Victoria Cross recipient Dr Johnson Beharry to hear the former British Army soldier speak about his inspiring story of bravery and to share his experience.
Dr Johnson Beharry received the highest military honour after saving members of his unit when fighting in Iraq in 2004.
Dr Beharry spoke to pupils about his thought processes during the ambushes that almost proved fatal for his unit, as well as his upbringing in the Caribbean and how he began his career with the Army.
Pupils were surprised to hear that the former soldier was at times very frightened while on deployment and that he sustained serious head injuries during an ambush.
The talk concluded with Dr Beharry sharing his advice to pupils to focus on education and time spent while at school. The military hero then took part in an interview with Lower Sixth pupil Anirudh Jain for the school’s student publication, The Voice.Published: February 12 2018
