Cobham students go global at International Fair
Last month, the ACS Cobham community celebrated its multicultural identity with the annual International Fair.
The Fair, organised by the ACS Cobham Lower School and parent volunteers, saw students, parents, teachers and staff enjoy traditions, food, and drink from every corner of the globe.
Each country had a team of parent representatives who organised activities and food expressing their nation’s cultural traditions, transforming the sports hall into an international market. With over 20 vibrant stalls, spanning from Spain to India, the event was a celebration of cultural exchange across the schools’ international community.
Throughout the day, guests and students sampled local cuisines, enjoyed a range of traditional games and tried on cultural dress. Students were also equipped with an international ‘passport’, receiving a stamp from each country stall they ‘visited’ and learnt about through different activities.
The schools’ Marimba Band also took centre stage, performing an eclectic musical ensemble for visitors to the Fair.
Kathryn Firebrace, Assistant Lower School Principal, commented:
“The International Fair is a chance for our incredible school community to celebrate our cultural diversity. It brings everyone together – students, parents and staff - to celebrate their country and learn more about their ‘neighbours’ from all over the world. And as with all such school events, it could not have been the success that it was without the hard work of all the volunteers who gave of their time and energy!”Published: February 13 2018
