Commonwealth Swimming Hero Inspires Children
Children at Hazlegrove Prep School were treated to an inspirational assembly from Olympian and Double Commonwealth Medallist, Cameron Kurle.
Kurle, a freestyle swimmer from Yeovil, made his senior international debut as part of Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympics. He spoke to the children and shared advice regarding his swimming career to date. Most recently, Kurle competed for Team England at the Gold Coast Common Wealth Games 2018 at which he won Silver Medal in both the 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay and 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay.
Director of Sports at Hazlegrove, Phil Cobb, said, ‘It is fantastic for the children to meet such an inspirational young man who makes sporting achievement and enjoyment so accessible. We focus very much on the wealth of opportunity available to all of our children regardless of ability and Cameron is an excellent role model. It has been a real privilege to welcome him to the school’.
The children were clearly impressed with Year 8 student Jake commenting, ‘It was very interesting watching Cameron’s video, I looked at his stroke and thought about how I will work on mine’. Published: June 11 2018
