Year 10 Science Challenge Finalist Wins Runner-Up Prize at House of Lords

Science Challenge prizewinner and North Bridge House Senior Hampstead Year 10 student, Ping is named runner-up in the Royal College of Science Union (RCSU) final at the House of Lords. Winning £100 prize money with his digital entry for ‘What small area of current research do you think has the potential to revolutionise our lives and why?’, Ping competed against Imperial College London university students as well as other school students. The RCSU’s annual flagship event, the Science Challenge is intended to provoke thought among our future generation of scientists; what are the problems affecting society and how can science be used to help resolve them? With his video entry looking at the genome editing technology, CRISPR-Cas9, Ping had to effectively communicate the science behind this genetic disease modifying system to the wider public. Ping was thrilled to come runner up in the tough competition, which was this year judged by professor Lord Robert Winston. His entry clearly demonstrates his passion for science and is both clear and creative in communicating that passion to a wider audience.
