York singer hits right note
York based singer/songwriter and musician Jess Gardham hit the right note when she visited Bootham Junior School in York.
The singer, who also got through to the quarterfinals for MasterChef in 2018, performed at a special assembly on well-being.
The benefits of singing for emotional health are well established and Jess helped the children come up with their own songs to express the way they were feeling.
Head teacher, Helen Todd, said: “After performing in our special assembly, Jess held workshops for Years 5 & 6, helping them to talk about their feelings and showing how this can be used to write songs.
“This was such an inspirational morning. It was wonderful to see the children exploring how music can link to their emotions and how they can express themselves through song.
“The wellbeing of our pupils is the most important thing at Bootham School. We know our young pupils thrive in a nurturing environment, so our main objective is to ensure their time with us is a happy, stimulating and successful one.
“Singing has been proving to have a beneficial effect on mental health and wellbeing so we are so grateful to Jess for her coming in and working with us.” Published: January 16 2019
