Millfield Prep pupils invited to Chalke Valley History Festival School’s Day
Millfield Prep pupils were very fortunate to be invited by Millfield to the Chalke Valley History Festival School’s Day, in the first joint trip by the History Departments.
Our pupils attended a talk by Martin Brown, the artist for Horrible Histories, who showed how to interpret visual sources; from cave drawings and the Bayeux Tapestry to Renaissance paintings. Martin explained why history is so fascinating and demonstrated how to draw Horrible Histories cartoons, one of which was given to the department!
Mrs Trainor and Mr Sweet arranged a number of workshops linked to the Year 8 and 9 curriculums, including a Living History archery display and Agincourt Q&A, Time Traveller’s Kitchen, trench tour and Viking and Saxon pop-up talks to school groups.
One of the highlights was an opportunity to meet James Holland, Festival Chair and well-known historian, who offered our pupils an opportunity to take part in a World War Two talk.Published: August 30 2019
