Barrow Hills appoints new Director of Teaching and Learning
Sarah Poyntz has been appointed Director of Teaching and Learning at Barrow Hills School, with effect from September 2019.
After graduating in Law at Nottingham University, Sarah entered the teaching profession by becoming a teaching / care assistant caring for a child with cerebral palsy. With teaching in the family – her father was also a teacher – Sarah embarked on a graduate teaching programme which enabled her to combine work at a Nottingham primary school with day release at Nottingham Trent university where she successfully gained her PGCE and QTS qualifications.
Sarah then moved as an NQT to Pinewood School in Wiltshire – an independent coeducational boarding and prep school for children up to the age of 13, where she spent six happy years, escalating to the position of Head of Middle School (Years 5 and 6).
A move prompted by her husband’s military career led to Sarah taking up a teaching role at St Edmund’s School in Hindhead.
The position at Barrow Hills provides an opportunity for Sarah to consolidate her management experience in a smaller school environment. At Barrow Hills Sarah will be working with the new Head Philip Oldroyd to review the best practice for learning and teaching across the whole school from Nursery right up to Year 8.
Commenting on the new position Sarah says, “I am looking forward to joining the Barrow Hills School family where I hope to play a significant role in influencing the powerful impact that a good education can have on our children, working not just as a teacher but also considering the School’s strategic approach to delivering learning opportunities that deliver optimum results.”
