16 West Buckland Pupils Selected for Netball Academies


A record number of 16 West Buckland School pupils have been selected for the Devon county and North Devon netball academies that commence this autumn. Five pupils from Years 8-10 have been selected for the county academy where they will be join up with other talented players from schools across Devon for regular specialist coaching sessions at Exeter University Sports Centre to develop their skills and potential.
Eleven girls from Years 8-9 have been selected for the North Devon Satellite Academy. They will be joining up with young players from other North Devon schools to take part in ten fortnightly academy training sessions that will run at Kingsley School until March.
The Satellite Academy is the first step onto England Netballs Player Performance Pathway, a process for developing athletes with the attributes to attain excellence. The academy will provide access to quality coaching and the athletes will learn how to train and develop the skills of netball, basic technical and tactical skills, hydration and nutrition, fitness preparation and goal setting. The pupils were selected after successfully attending a trials held earlier in June.
