New Boarding House Parents at Swanbourne

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 29th of November 2012

Swanbourne House School's new House parents have launched a new e-newsletter, written partly by the boarders, to help keep parents informed of life in the boarding house. The impact of modern communication, with full boarders able to Skype their parents at weekends, and quick turn-a-round of e mails, has meant the home school links are the strongest, ever.
The Boarding House is a true home from home and new events include a "Pizza and Pamper" evening for the girls and "Boarding and Bowling" for boys. The Joint Heads said, "The old fashioned image of boarding is long gone, that is why we have again achieved Ofsted outstanding for our Boarding, we run as one big family and the children are happy to be here - there is nothing children enjoy more than a sleep-over with their friends."
Andrew and Liz Kirk lead the Boarding House and have had experience of residential education with children aged seven to thirteen. Mr. Kirk is a Geographer and Primary Teacher and strong interest in Outdoor Pursuits means that he has led expeditions for almost every child in the School. He said, " Outdoor pursuits is one of the strengths of the school and all of the boarders learn self-reliance and they are good at problem solving." Mrs. Kirk is also a Primary Teacher and has run the school's Friday Choir, so you can be sure that Boarders Carols will be harmonious. Mrs Kirk said, "Between us we have known the children through running activities as well as teaching and being involved with all of the plays, singing and outdoor education"
Between them they have taught almost all of the children. If you would like to come and see the Boarding House for yourself then do come and visit; you can be assured of a warm welcome!
