Although PGHS is renowned for its excellent examination results, pupils’ success is not only measured in terms of academic accomplishment. Our focus on the skills and aptitudes of each individual ensures that our girls are both challenged and supported to enable them to fulfil their potential. The school has an interesting extra-curricular programme including chess, debating, Duke of Edinburgh, 'Knitwits' and yoga in addition to all the usual dramatic, musical and sporting activities. Everyone is given the chance to shine in the classroom and in other activities.

THE ALICE NURSERY (girls aged 3-4) is a recently completed purpose-designed facility situated within 10-15 minutes of the main school site. It features an open-plan main room with specialist provision for different aspects of the curriculum. Exciting opportunities for learning continue outisde the classroom in the secure outdoor activity area. Most girls from the Nursery progress through to the Reception class. Entry to the Nursery by interview.

THE PREPARATORY AND JUNIOR DEPARTMENTS are both located on the main school site in Hoppers Road. In the Prep Department(ages 4-7)girls enjoy the excitement of learning, exploring new ideas and meeting the challenges set by our dedicated and experienced staff. A combination of learning through play and more formal activities enables them to make a really good start. Decision-making and problem solving are also key elements in their development.

The Junior Department (ages 7 - 11) has a stimulating and purposeful atmosphere. Field trips and educational visits are an integral part of the curriculum and the performing arts feature strongly throughout the school. Girls are encouraged to develop a caring and considerate approach to others and support a variety of charities, in line with the school's ethos and motto: By Love Serve One Another. Key stage 2 results are exceptional and our girls are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of Senior School. Entry to the Lower School (ages 4- 11) is by Assessment and Interview, which vary in length and content according to age.

THE SENIOR SCHOOL ‘Small IS beautiful’. As a result of small teaching groups and individual attention our students gain excellent GCSE results. In 2008 72.3% of GCSE entries were graded A* or A. Also in 2008 a PGHS girl attained one of the top ten marks in the country in five subjects at GCSE including English, History and Spanish. For Sixth Form PGHS students progress to other independent schools (all girls and co-ed), maintained schools, and Sixth Form Colleges.

Entry to the Senior School is by interview and formal examination – English, Maths, Science and Reasoning Papers at 11+. 11+ testing takes place in January, with testing for occasional vacancies throughout the year.
