Alderwasley Hall and Callow Park College is specialist residential and day school approved by the Department of Education, for pupils whose special educational needs arise from their difficulties with speech, language and communication and Aspergers and Higher Functioning Autism.

At the heart of our work is the collaborative planning, teaching and assessment which takes place intensively between speech and language therapists, specialist teachers, care workers and learner support staff.
Class sizes are kept small to ensure that all pupils benefit from the high levels of specialist intervention and a curriculum which provides a wide range of school and community based learning and social opportunities.
We were delighted with comments in the Ofsted report, which included:
'The quality of education and care provided at Alderwasley Hall School, including for post 16 students at Callow Park College, is good. It is significantly enhanced by a range of high quality therapies.'(May 2008)

Prospective pupils are assessed by a multi disciplinary team prior to admission. Each assessment is individually structured to take account of previous information and is planned and carried out with our Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurse and Residential Care staff(if appropriate).

Pupils reside in houses according to their age and reflecting their levels of social awareness and personal responsibility. Post 16 students who have attained higher levels of independence live offsite at Cavendish House in Matlock.

The two main school sites benefit from extensive grounds. There are motor therapy and occupational therapy facilities including a football pitch, a swimming pool, a purpose-built climbing wall, squash court and ICT suites. Over recent years we have developed links with local mainstream education providers and community groups so that our pupils can participate in activities with a wider peer group. Links with local employers also provide valuable work experience opportunities for pupils in Key Stage 4 and above.

MISSION STATEMENT
'We all work together to create a happy and caring environment which enables our pupils to learn and communicate with confidence, and grow as valued members of society.'
