A warm welcome to Pegasus School and Children's Home

Pegasus School and Children’s Home is situated in the grounds of Caldwell Hall, five miles from Burton on Trent on the borders of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. We provide education and care for children and young people between the ages of 8 – 19 years, who have challenging behaviour and severe and complex communication difficulties. The school has places for up to 23 students, all of whom are provided with individual specialist support.

Students with severe and complex communication difficulties have problems in the areas of cognition and social interaction. These core problems can express themselves in behavioural difficulties. Additionally our students have invariably been unsuccessful in previous settings; leading in many cases to poor self esteem and further severe challenging behaviour.

All education, therapy and care is focussed on the development of interactive skills. Giving students the skills to communicate effectively increases students’ motivation and confidence, allowing them to access the wider curriculum.

The school is within walking distance of the village of Rosliston, providing informal access to village facilities. The school has two mini buses to enable students to make use of the wider community and facilities in nearby Burton on Trent.

Students are able to make full use of the safe, extensive grounds, including the opportunity to play football, cricket, ride bicycles, or merely enjoy the open space and freedom that the grounds provide.

The school provides individual bedrooms for each student, personalised to meet individual needs and tastes. There are also comfortable living and leisure areas.

Classrooms are large and spacious, allowing teachers the freedom to set up individualized work and play areas without overcrowding. Students also have access to a very large gym; a large light and dark room as well as soft play facilities.
