A Word from the Head

Kingsmead is Merseyside's only day and boarding school. Our day pupils take advantage of our evening and weekend programmes for boarders, and flexi-boarding is a popular option.

We are a Christian school which welcomes children of all faiths, and none.

We believe that only when a child is happy and secure can everything else fall into place; only then can the real work of a school begin. So first, last and always, we work to make sure Kingsmead is a very happy place.
Just as in any family, we value all the children equally and we work to discover and develop each one's gifts, interests and strengths. Every child who joins Kingsmead is encouraged to recognise their own gifts - and to recognise and value the differing talents of others within the school. We encourage very high standards of personal conduct; indeed our children are encouraged to raise their expectations of themselves in every way.

Our brightest pupils' results match the best in the country and all academic achievement is raised, regardless of base-line ability. GCSE 2009 results, across all abilities within the school, saw 76% at grade C or above, and 82% of students earning five or more passes at grades A* to C. The top achieving pupil gained eleven passes, nine at A* and the remaining two at grade A.

Boarding is available termly, weekly and as flexi-boarding for day pupil sleep-overs. And in addition to all this, childcare is available for working families a full 50 weeks of the year.

Extra-curricular opportunities are phenomenal: archery, bushcraft, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, film editing… there are over 30 different activities available out of school hours.

Throughout its 106 years, Kingsmead School has never stood still. Today, development plans include a new Sports Hall to replace the existing Gym, a new Teaching Block to re-house the Infant Department and the Junior School and an all weather astro turf pitch.

At the end of their time with us, our children leave with a clear view of what is right and wrong, with an awareness of others and prepared for life.
