A Word from the Head
Bedstone College, a fully co-educational independent boarding and day school catering for children between the ages of 3 to 18 years, enjoys a glorious setting in rural South Shropshire, set in 40 acres of beautiful grounds, within easy reach from all areas.
The College consists of the Pre-preparatory Department for children age 3 to 7 years, the Preparatory School, for ages 8 to 11 years and the Senior College, for ages 11 to 18 years, all integrated within one campus..
Bedstone offers a broad and balanced curriculum with over 17 examination subjects from GCSE, AS or A2. Over 95% of sixth formers proceed to University. Bedstone is consistently one of the top Shropshire Schools, state or independent.
Our aim is to give individual attention enabling each pupil to achieve their potential. With low pupil:teacher ratios, the smaller classes allow for individual needs to be catered for. A well-qualified and highly motivated staff believe that each child has a unique talent which it is their job to find and nurture.
The beautiful mixture of old and new buildings provides for a stimulating environment. Both lower schools have access to many of the senior school facilities such as the sports centre, swimming pool, design technology centre and music school.
Pupils participate in a wide selection of sporting activities including Hockey, Netball, Badminton, Cricket, Rugby, Athletics, Rounders, Soccer, Tennis, Cross-Country, Swimming – and more! In addition to outdoor pitches the school has a heated swimming pool and purpose built Sports Centre. There is competition at regional and national level with teams’ fixtures and coaching in all years. Bedstone College was one of the first schools to introduce Sports Studies at both GCSE and A level.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities is enjoyed by all pupils. Horse-riding, clay pigeon shooting and chess are just some that are constantly added to. Full advantage is taken of the many facilities close by such as mountain biking, rock climbing, regional theatres and of course the wonderful Shropshire landscape which makes the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme such a popular activity.
Bedstone College has a very active charity committee and all scholars play their part in supporting a wide range of charities, including many local causes.
One of the few constants in life is that things are forever changing. The world that we are preparing our young scholars for is very different to the world that we, as adults, were prepared for by our teachers. Many schools talk about fulfilling potential or blending academic excellence with outstanding extra curricular provision. However, Bedstone College is not an institution built upon sound bites, it is a real school in which we value the meaning of success in its widest sense. Our scholars come from a very wide range of backgrounds and abilities; yet each of them has something within them that is very special. It is this focus on trying to uncover that special talent and using it to build confidence and self-esteem that makes Bedstone much more than a school, but rather a family. Through our wide range of academic and extra curricular provision we aim to develop in our scholars the personal characteristics that they will need to face a world which moves at great pace. As well as achieving excellent academic standards, our leavers are robust, confident, self-aware, tolerant and above all adaptable.
As teachers, we are in such a privileged position; we are charged with developing the most precious things in the world. The minds of young people. At Bedstone, we take this responsibility very seriously indeed. Please do come to visit us and find out what makes Bedstone College such a wonderfully fulfilling place in which to live and to learn.
