Founded in 1407, Oswestry School occupies an impressive site overlooking the Shropshire plain and the pleasant market town of Oswestry.

The School caters for children aged 0 to 18 years: the pre-prep at Bellan House ages 0 to 9, and 9 to 18 in the Senior School. Entry at 9, 11, 13 and 16 years is normally via interview and report from previous school, but applicants at other ages are welcomed and are accepted normally on interview and on the basis of a satisfactory school reports. Scholarships are available at all these ages of entry.

Oswestry School is non-selective; top students aim for entry at 18 years to Oxford or Cambridge, whilst at the same time, pupils requiring learning support benefit from the special help of qualified teachers in a purpose designed Learning Support Unit.

The major boys' sports are football and rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer whilst girls play netball, hockey, tennis and athletics. In addition, a wide variety of clubs offers badminton, aerobics, squash, outdoor pursuits, sailing and many other possibilities. The School's extensive playing fields and swimming pool mean that pupils' individual interests and potential can be developed to the full.

The School's strength lies in the personal care offered to each pupil. Small classes, personal care of boarders by qualified staff, regular reporting to parents, a strong tutor system and comprehensive advice on Careers and Higher Education ensure that each individual child receives the right blend of encouragement and stimulus during their School days. There is a purpose built Sixth Form House for boarding boys and a self-contained annexe for Sixth Form girls. Our aim is that they should then be able to enter the world of work as well-balanced and flexible adults, ambitious and determined, but able to mix and to work with others.

As part of our on-going development plans, work has been completed on the refurbishment of the junior boys' boarding house. We have new all-weather cricket nets and tennis courts and plans are underway for a new sports hall.
