Queenswood School was founded in 1937 as Wakefield Tutorial School; the name was changed to Queenswood School in April 2009 when we moved to our new building a few hundred metres from our previous home in Morley. Set within a conservation area, this new location offers a much improved learning environment for our children, we have superbly resourced classrooms and the large garden allows us to implement fully the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Our last Ofsted inspection was in June 2008, this underlined what a flourishing school this is, I am truly proud of the report. This recognised the strength of the curriculum, especially the provision for spoken English and performing arts, which were described as “outstanding”. Also, the excellent opportunities to participate in music and drama were highlighted, with the quality of singing described as “exceptional”. The report goes on to say that DT and physical education are also strong and pupils' experience excitement and fun in their learning. It also says that the school provides a warm, welcoming environment and there is a 'family atmosphere'. I hope you take time to use the link to our website to read the Ofsted report in full.
Although we have moved and have a new name, our values and ethos have not changed. Our mission statement is:
“To offer our children a balanced education in a quiet, caring and secure environment in which they are able to reach their full potential both academically and as people.”
We take the development of the “whole person” very seriously; it is at the heart of the school’s values as we seek to develop each child’s individuality. We prepare our children to take their place in society and this is reflected in the pastoral care we offer, our children are taught to respect those around them, themselves and the fabric of their community.
We are currently inviting applications for Favell Scholarships; these are open to children currently in state schools for entry into Years 1 & 2. The scholarships offer up to 50% of the standard fee; please contact me for more information or an application pack.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s education please do not hesitate to contact me. I would also like to invite you to get in touch to arrange to visit us and see for yourselves what an outstanding school this is.
