Set in 750 acres of landscape garden and parkland, founded in 1923 in the former home of the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos, Stowe School is set in a magnificent and inspiring location. Stowe is essentially a country boarding school of unrivalled beauty, committed to the pursuit of intellectual, cultural and sporting excellence, offering the broadest of facilities.
At Stowe, we identify and develop the individual strengths of each of our pupils, guide and nurture their talent, preparing them for their future. Creativity is prized and academic rigour encouraged.
In September 2007 a new girls’ boarding House opens, with a fourth to follow in due course, building upon Stowe’s success as a co-educational school. We place particular emphasis on our level of pastoral care. Housemasters and Housemistresses and their families, resident matrons and academic tutors are all involved in the life of the House.
At Stowe the best educational environment is created by combining traditional teaching methods with innovative technology. IT is used across all subjects to engage the pupils and enhance, not replace, teaching. With our Tutor system and academic clinics, pupils are encouraged, supported and challenged.
Art, drama, music and sport all play a key part in the education provision and cultural life at Stowe. We are proud of the achievements of our pupils as we provide the basis for them to develop their talents further at University, specialist art, drama or music colleges.
All pupils are encouraged to participate fully in a diverse range of extra-curricular activities and to participate in new pursuits that they might not otherwise have considered. There are so many different activities - sporting, cultural and creative. Whether it is Polo, the Historical and Literary Societies, Fishing, Golf (on our own 9-hole course), Beagling, Creative Textiles, Clay Pigeon Shooting or the Debating Society, no pupil can ever complain of being bored or not having enough to do.
Stowe offers a wide range of scholarships which may be supported further with bursaries according to financial need. A limited number of fully funded places are available. Scholarships are available to boys and girls demonstrating academic, musical, artistic, creative, sporting talents and all-round ability. Our Scholars are given many opportunities to explore beyond the confines of the curriculum.
Life at Stowe really does stimulate the individual to achieve his or her best.
In 2006, Dr Anthony Wallersteiner, was delighted to have received Tatler's Award for Best Headmaster of a Public School, 2006.
