Kingswood School offers a caring and nurturing environment in which the highest academic standards are attained, alongside a strong emphasis on all-round education. It is one of the finest boarding and day schools in the South West of England, in one of the most beautiful settings - within 218 acres of parkland on Lansdown Hill, overlooking the world heritage City of Bath. It is ideally placed for easy access by rail and road (only 90 minutes from London) and also international airports at Gatwick, Heathrow and also Bristol.

Facilities include not only extensive academic classrooms, laboratories and ICT facilities, but a Music School (with recording studio), a Theatre and Drama Studio used for professional as well as amateur productions, and extensive sports facilities (Sports Hall, two Floodlit Astroturf pitches with an extended training area, indoor swimming pool etc). A recent new addition is a multi-media library based at the heart of the campus which enhances the individual learning programmes established for all pupils. All the boarding houses have been upgraded in recent years and offer excellent ’homely’ environments, satellite TV and all but two, have their own private grounds and garden.

The School is the oldest Methodist educational establishment in the world (founded in 1748 by John Wesley) and so it has a unique heritage. Today it welcomes pupils from every faith and none, and has a global outlook. It sees its religious aim as not to indoctrinate, but to explore the spiritual dimensions of life and to instil a love of life and learning in all its pupils. Christian values permeate Kingswood School's philosophy and ethos. The witness of Chapel life is therefore important and all members of the school community are encouraged to behave in a way that reflects the best Christian values.

The senior section of the School offers education for boys and girls, both day and boarding, between the ages of 11 and 18. The younger pupils aged 11 and 12 have their own centre, which enables them to enjoy all the extra care normally associated with the best of prep schools, whilst simultaneously experiencing all the benefits of the whole senior school facilities and its wide curriculum. At 13+ they enter one of six houses, three for boys and three for girls. Each senior house, like the junior one, provides a strong caring community in which friendships can flourish. There is a large sixth form of c200 with their own a purpose-built Study Centre offering an array of extra facilities for their exclusive use.

Academically, the School consistently achieves very high results, however, the aim is to ensure that all students are able to develop their other talents to equal effect. Kingswood School has a very high reputation for its sport, music, drama, and art, and it has a particularly extensive array of activities – with over 100 options available throughout the year. This generates a very happy school in which pupils feel appreciated and learn to use their different skills.

Inspection reports have praised Kingswood School not only for its academic attainment, high level of pastoral care, and breadth of extra-curricular activity but also for the commitment and dedication of its teaching staff. The relationships between staff and pupils are one of the factors most commented upon by parents. The school expects parents to work with it in ensuring standards of behaviour that encourage co-operation , mutual support and a sense of responsibility alongside providing opportunity for competition and individuality. The generation of life-long friendships is very much part of what the school encourages.

A Kingswood pupil will be taking much more than good results with them to University!
