Prior Park College, Bath, is one of the leading co-educational boarding and day Catholic Independent HMC schools in the UK. The community is very ecumenical in spirit and provides an outstanding 'Education for life'. It is a place where an excellent work ethic, pupil responsibility, leadership and enrichment opportunities are evident. A culture of kindness exists.
The quality of the House-based pastoral care, and the breadth of opportunity are outstanding. All pupils are challenged to improve existing talents whilst developing others. Our junior House team of tutors and associated sixth formers ensure that all our Year 7 pupils from 20 or so feeder schools are welcomed and supported in the new junior House centrally located within the site. A positive teaching environment encourages academic success and lessons are stimulating and exciting. A wide range of over 60 weekly activities including football, tennis, chess, electronics, textiles, dance and scrabble, are on offer. Prep (homework) is generally completed during the working day for Years 7 and 8. Pupils also transfer to the College from preparatory schools at the age of 13 and they quickly integrate into our senior Houses. Academic lessons are placed within the 5 day week, allowing students to have extra study time on Saturday, followed by a range of ‘Saturday Active ‘ courses including Leith cookery, climbing, sailing, pony trekking, DIY, archery, sociology master class and much more......
Boarding is at the heart of Prior Park and this is reflected in the recent refurbishment of the boarding accommodation to provide modern and attractive dorm and study bedrooms. Attractive weekly boarding has been introduced. Recent developments in the last 2 years have included a major refurbishment of an indoor swimming pool, an ICT centre and classroom extension and the Mackintosh Dance Studio.
In 2009 our A Level pupils achieved 76% A & B grades with over a fifth of pupils gaining 3 or more A grades. At GCSE 68% of all grades were at A* & A. 40% of pupils gained 10A* & A grades or better.
Sixth Form pupils impress visitors with their quiet confidence and their pride in the College while new entrants to the College quickly settle in and often gain positions of major responsibility in the Upper Sixth.
Academic, All-Rounder, Art, Drama, Music and Sporting Excellence Scholarships and HM Forces and other bursaries are available.
