A Word from the Head
Kilgraston is set amid 54 acres of stunning Scottish countryside in Bridge of Earn, just three miles from the centre of Perth, 40 minutes north of Edinburgh and an hour's drive from Glasgow. Mountains, lakes, rivers and ski slopes are close by and this gentle setting provides the perfect environment for concentrated yet easy learning.
Kilgraston is Scotland’s leading boarding school for girls aged 2½ - 18 (day boys 2½ - 9 years). The school follows the Scottish curriculum with the girls taking Standard Grade/Intermediate 1 & 2 (GCSE equivalent) followed by Highers and Advanced Highers (A Level equivalent) during their two years in the Sixth Form. Kilgraston has an excellent record of academic achievement often gaining some of the best results in Scotland. In 2011 Kilgraston performed extremely well with the Lower Sixth posting a new record of an incredible 57% A grades (95% A-C) in their Highers. Not to be outdone, the Upper Sixth achieved an excellent 54% A grades (92% A-C) at Advanced Higher.
High academic excellence is a priority at Kilgraston with Upper Sixth leavers progressing to some of the best universities across the UK and beyond. Destinations in recent years have included: Oxford and Cambridge as well as Aberdeen, Bath, Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and St Andrews to name just a few. The choice of courses covers a broad spectrum: medicine, veterinary science, natural sciences, modern languages, history, mathematics, psychology and law.
Kilgraston has a strong reputation for art, drama and music which play an important part of life at the school. The many orchestras, choirs and music groups give opportunities for the girls to perform throughout the year. The Art Department is housed at the top of the mansion with superb views and the school boasts an impressive number of past pupils who are practicing professional artists. A new theatre with audio visual facilities was opened in 2005.
Sports and Recreation are catered for with an indoor sports hall with climbing wall and fitness suite and the superb 25m indoor swimming pool complex opened in May 2008. In 2010 Kilgraston opened its Centre of Excellence for Hockey and Tennis which included a brand new International sized all-weather floodlit hockey pitch and 8 resurfaced floodlit tennis courts.
Kilgraston is the only school in Scotland with an Equestrian Centre, incorporating a 60m by 40m floodlit arena with livery on campus. The school hosts the Scottish Schools' Equestrian Championships at Gleneagles each year and the Girl's Schools Association Equestrian Championships at Kilgraston. The girls are encouraged to use all of the school’s facilities not only for curriculum lessons but also for leisure activities and many take part in the Duke of Edinburgh and John Muir Award Schemes.
