A Word from the Head

Nunnykirk is a co-educational CReSTeD school, approved by the DFE and awarded the School Achievement Award for 2 years running. For the past 32 years Nunnykirk has been working with dyslexic children and their families to provide a unique educational and social environment which allows students the opportunity to realise their potential. Through a team of caring individuals, we offer a wealth of practical experience combined with professional qualifications. Comprehensive Individual Education Plans and small classes allow us to exploit an individual's strengths to the full. A 'broad, balanced curriculum' (praised by Ofsted 1998, 2004, 2007) follows the National Curriculum, combined with an extensive extra-curricular programme ensure the development of self-confidence and self-esteem. We aim to enable each student to become a happy, caring young person, capable of contributing to the community in a positive way, with the confidence and ability to move on into further education.

Nunnykirk is a Grade I Listed building set in the heart of the Northumbrian countryside, offering unlimited scope for outdoor activities, yet also within easy reach of Newcastle airport and railway station with direct services to all major cities. The school has excellent facilities including art room, dark room, home economics room, wood and plastic workshops, comprehensive ICT facilities. The school runs a small holding with farm animals which forms part of rural studies. The market towns of Morpeth and Alnwick are nearby, and students go there for clubs such as swimming and athletics. The school also enjoys excellent facilities for sailing and canoeing on the coast, hill-walking and cycling in the Cheviots and pupils participate in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Our 6th form is continuing to expand enabling our pupils to prepare for and enter into University education.
