Leighton Park is a co-educational, day and boarding school of 490 pupils aged 11-18. Its outstanding teaching, facilities and excellent academic results give it the qualities that parents seek in a school but in addition, there is a welcoming atmosphere in which pupils’ achievements and successes are genuinely recognised. The recent ISI Inspection report stated ‘Leighton Park is highly successful in providing an education of good quality in a strongly Quaker ethos. Pupils achieve well academically in relation to their abilities while experiencing rich opportunities for their personal and social development.’

Leighton Park is a forward looking school which prepares young people for a successful and rewarding future through a busy and active educational programme, and in a culture in which care for the individual is paramount. Pupils flourish in this environment of openness and understanding, stemming from the school’s Quaker foundation, knowing they will be encouraged to achieve the highest standards of excellence in all that they undertake.

This year, an overall 99% pass rate for A levels was achieved (the eighth consecutive year over 97%), with 80% at A -C. In GCSE, 97% of pupils achieved 5 or more passes at A*-C, with 43% at A*/A, and 95% graded at C or above. There are over 140 students in the Sixth Form with most progressing to university. It is an IB World School and has offered the IB Diploma Programme since September 2009.

Facilities include a networked ICT centre, Drama Studio, theatre, the David Linday Centre with Science Laboratories and Design Technology, a suite of 10 music rehearsal rooms, recording studio, superb library, heated swimming pool, floodlit Astroturf pitch, 16 tennis courts and much more. New state of the art dining facility, offering a wide choice of top quality meals. As well as its academic record, pupils excel in sport, drama, music and creative arts. New for 2005 Multi Media Language Centre and in September 2006 a new Sixth Form Centre opened.

Day pupils and boarders enjoy a wealth of out of school activities and hobbies. Day pupils have the option of coming for breakfast or staying for tea, hobbies and prep, giving parents the confidence that their children are spending time after school constructively, enjoyably and safely. After school activities range from kayaking, ceramics and judo, to debating, a wealth of music groups and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. A programme of trips and visits, both in the UK and abroad, further enhances pupils’ experience.

Pastoral care is a strong feature of Leighton Park. Within the school community, different age groups mix in the four senior Houses, leading to trust and friendship. The youngest pupils, age 11-13, have their own House, Fryer, providing a valuable stepping stone between junior and senior education. Within the House, each pupil can turn to their Tutor, as well as Matron. Professional medical care is available at the well-equipped Heath Centre.

Open mornings are held once a month, with further individual meetings with the Head available. Call 0118 987 9600 to book a place.
